Waiting

Description

This artwork is a diptych, meaning it is composed of two panels that together form one cohesive image. On the left panel, there’s a stylized drawing of an eye with an elongated, curved upper eyelid and a fully drawn iris and pupil, giving a sense of watchfulness. The right panel mirrors this with another eye, but the eyelid is less curved, offering a variation in expression.

Between these two watchful eyes lies the central figure that spans across both panels. It’s a reclining female nude, rendered in warm, golden tones. Her form is elongated and stylized with smooth, flowing lines that suggest a relaxed pose. She supports her weight on one elbow, while the rest of her body stretches out gracefully.

A notable feature is where the figure’s lower body should continue, a bonsai tree is placed instead. The tree sits in a small, dark pot and leans in the same direction as the figure’s pose. The branches of the bonsai are bare, adding a stark, organic contrast to the soft curves of the figure’s form. This could be symbolic of human connection to nature or the idea of life and growth.

The background is neutral, allowing the figure and the tree to stand out. The painting combines elements of human form, nature, and stillness, perhaps inviting reflection on the interconnectedness of life.
